As soon as the sunlight creeps through your window or your alarm goes off, your day is instantly set into motion. So many people rush through their mornings, just waking up and heading to work or dropping off the kids at school. What we do first thing when we wake up sets the tone for our entire day. If we wake up and jump into a hectic, stressful, fast-paced environment, we will carry that throughout our entire day. This leaves you feeling extremely drained and unhappy. That’s where I come in to help. Here are my favorite ways to start the morning right.
The Importance of Sleep
The best way to start your day off right actually begins the day before, and I bet you can guess it has to do with your bedtime. In order to be well rested and give yourself enough time in the morning, you need to get a good night’s sleep. Recently I heard the saying that “Every hour of sleep before midnight is actually worth 2 hours”. Especially if I am having to wake up early on a daily basis, I like to be in bed by 10. I know…I am such a grandma.
The next thing you want to do is to wake up early enough to accomplish everything you want to do…but at a leisurely pace. I usually like to wake up 1 to 2 hours before I have to leave so that I don’t feel rushed in the morning. This is why sleep the night before is so important, because it allows you to wake up earlier without feeling as tired.
The Food You Eat
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So STOP SKIMPING OUT! Start the day with a big glass of water. I mean like 1 liter big! I usually like to fill up my Platypus water bottle and refill it at least once during the day. There is something so fun to me about drinking out of this foldable BPA-free bottle. I encourage you to find an enjoyable way to drink your water. You can shop for the bottle here:
With my water I usually have toast with either Earth Balance Butter or Justin’s Almond Butter. Also, I just started making homemade ice pops to get my daily fruit in. I use these wonderful silicone molds from FoodWorks.
You Time in the Morning
Lastly, you want to allow yourself time in the morning to focus yourself. That may come in the form of stretching, meditating, writing in a journal, going for a walk or even doing your makeup. If you are religious you may take this time to pray or read your daily scripture. It is so important to have some special time to just focus and take care of yourself.
This is an ideal morning, but if you want to learn more about what I do on the daily watch this video on my honest everyday morning routine.
